HI my name is donna(forgive the punctuation) im trying to hurry, I am a groomer of 24 years, and have worked at a vets clinic for 13, recenyly someone dumped several cats and their kittens on the doorstep, all but one has found a new home but no one wants this one lonley black cat, she is missing part of her back leg, she is very sweet and loving, and gets around just pretty darn well, the problem is if she dosent get a home soon she will be put down or sent to the shelter, and she will most certianly be put down, this kitty deserves to have a family she really needs some one out there to love. Need help from any organization to included some small dogs we recently rescued into an adoption drive - they are already spayed with shots. We will care for them prior to and after the drive.

My husband and I recently rescued 13 dogs from a neighbor's home. We live north of the town of Ozark and have no local organizations to turn to for help in finding forever homes. We are looking for any group that does adoption drives to let us include them in the drive. We have already had them spayed/nutered and they have had all yearly shots. The group of 13 includes 5 adults (10-15lbs) and 7 puppies. Their breed appears to be possibly Jack Russell mix. We believe they would adopt easily if given the chance. The adoption fees could be a help for the organization. Also we would be willing to care for the dogs prior to, during, and after the drive (if any are left).

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Almost a year has gone by since my last blog entry. Many thing have happened, including the Baton Rouge deployment, a Houston deployment, Sassy's adoption, my wedding, and moving to a new city with my new wife.

With another year comes more work for me. My job has sent me back to the Little Rock area. I am getting settled in and preparing to volunteer with the Humane Society of Pulaski County. Tomorrow is one of their dog wash fundraisers at Trinity United Methodist Church in Little Rock. I look forward to getting dirty and wet and helping the shelter.

I continue to be the Team Leader of the San Antonio community of Best Friends Network. I'm not usually in San Antonio, so it becomes a long-distance "tele-volunteering". I write what news stories I can, and attend events when feasible.

I was contacted by a lady who is needing financial help with Buttercup, a 5 yr old chocolate Pom, whom she had bought through an ad in her local newspaper. The owner was selling her for only $50. The little lady who bought her is disabled and on a fixed income and thought she was getting a deal. She thought she would only have to get her shots and some antibiotics for her infected eye. When she took her to the vet, she was informed that Buttercup tested heavy positive for heartworms and microfilaria. The vet gave her a price of $350-$400 to treat the pom. She was devastated, as she has become very close to Buttercup, and couldn’t afford the treatment for her. She would love to keep her, but said she would give her up if that is what it took to get her well. I met them both and they love each other very much. I took Buttercup to my vet for a second opinion; unfortunately, everything the lady had told me was true. However, my vet said he could do the treatment for around $250. I will be responsible for her and care for her during her treatment. I have had alot of experience caring for dogs undergoing heatworm treatment.

I believe if this lady is willing to give her up to save her, she deserves to keep her if at all possible. Therefore, I am asking for any donations to help with Buttercup's treatment. If you can help any at all, you kindness is greatly appreciated.

I am desparate to find a foster for a lovely brindle and white boxer puppy. She's probably about three months old. She is friendly with everyone and I cant seem to find anything wrong with her other than the fact that she's obviously been starved and someone docked her tail with a rubberband although it's healed over. If you know any avaliable fosters or maybe someone interested in being her forever home, please let me know.

Does anyone know of a foster or permanent home for a FIV+ cat?

A few weeks ago a very pregnant cat appeared at my home. It was obvious she had been fending for herself for a while. I eventually gained her trust and took her to the vet to have her checked out. She tested positive for FIV but negative for Feline Leukemia. I had to leave her at the vet because I have an elderly cat, a kitten, and a cantankerous middle-age cat. The following day she had 6 kittens. She and the babies have been there for the past two weeks as we waited for test results on a 2nd FIV test. The results were confirmed today. I've been searching for 2 weeks to find an appropriate home. I'm distraught because I'm running out of options. It seems so senseless to put down a very loving cat who has had such a rough start. She is an excellent mother and soaks up any attention given her. And to put the kittens down when they may not even have the disease is just horrible. I've always been fortunate enough to find homes for (or keep) strays who wonder my way but I'm afraid the luck is running out. If anyone knows of any options I can explore, please let me know. Thank you.

It's a beautiful place with its historic buildings and an extravagent, lush national park in which to sit. Lakes, mountains, forests - the veritable tourist trap rarely seen in landlocked states. What the colorful brochures and pamphlets issued by the city don't show you are the colonies of feral cats; the poor, ramshackle buildings, artfully hidden away in the prettily landscaped back streets where dogs and cats wander and breed at will, maybe once cared for by humans but no longer. Nor will you find the overflowing trailer parks on the tour guide's route, where dogs are chained and cats in and out will give birth and cause uproar to residents who were not aware that a brother and sister cat might actually breed - for goodness sake, "it ain't like that in the Bible!" They will not tell you of the 5 kittens thrown out on the highway only to be killed by passing traffic and left there to decompose in the hot sun, or the cat hanged from the local high school gates no doubt for the fun of it all, and the kittens brought to our vet clinic, one not 4 weeks old the other probably 8 weeks but malnourished so who can tell, oozing pus from their eyes and covered with a moving black mass draining their blood and nor will they make you stand there and listen to the "guardian" tell you there are about "20 more like that at home - we let the mom cats breed because we love kittens. "

No, these sights you will never see in this popular destination and despite the recent changes in the statutes, you will never find a thing done to change such ignorance as it might impact this city negatively.

There are 100's, probably 1000's of kittens and cats and dogs living in such extreme conditions that we animal groups can only impact in a small way. My group, Guardian Angels is overwhelmed and the groups that we work closely with are in no better condition. We need help, we need real help. The lady who posted about Essie in Ola, is not alone, this whole region needs to stop being ignored. We need some good educational materials, some better avenues for adoption in state, out of state, overseas if need be because despite all of our best efforts, low cost and in a lot of cases free spay/ neuter, TNR in the City (which is totally against city policy), education and overall polite pummelling of the resident's and their collective conscience, we are not getting through.

We need funds and we need a big effort, a big push, some way to inform people through televison, radio, newspaper to make life better for their animals, to make people responsible for their actions against their animals. Our new initiative is "help you to help yourself" but there are so many obstacles in the way.

Okay, so this a vent and a cry for help and can someone invent a stronger heart or will to get through these days. Kitten/ puppy season has only just begun and every volunteer I know is run ragged and at breaking point.

Smokey is an active and healthy 6-years-young Chow/Shepherd/Rotti mix. He has been with 11th Hour Rescue for over 2 years. He is currently at our shelter, but is occasionally fostered by a volunteer with 6 other dogs. If you want a buddy for your dogs, Smokey’s the best! Smokey LOVES other dogs (he knows to be gentle with smaller ones) and is great with his foster parents, however he has “guarding issues”. Trying to “protect” his home and owners has lead to biting. He has NEVER gone after his fosterers and trusts them 100%. His caregiver can take food away from him; check his teeth, paws, mouth; give him a bath…pretty much handle him however they want. He is also crate-trained and housebroken.

Smokey is a “big puppy” who lives to play with and meet new dogs. Yard time is fun time for Smokey! His wariness about trusting people stems from low self-esteem and past abandonment. He does not show outwardly aggressive body language when nervous, which means that he would require a dog savvy home. Once Smokey bonds with you, he would never go after you – and he bonds quickly. His forever family would increase his confidence and trust as a “nervous aggression” dog. Someone who knows when company visits, he must be crated or put in another room to avoid the “guarding” behavior.

He is a great dog that deserves a chance at having a loving home, because he has so much love and loyalty to give to you!

Smokey is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.
