Keep The Animals From Being Forgotten

Forgotten Angels Sanctuary in Griswold needs your help A.S.A.P.!

A labor of love is hidden away in scenic southeastern Connecticut. After volunteering at local shelters for several years, Cathy and Mark Wickerd decided to build their own animal haven, from the ground up. The result of their hard work is Forgotten Angels Sanctuary.

The sanctuary, which opened May 19th, 2007, can house up to 40 cats and 2 dogs. Forgotten Angels rehabilitates the animals that they take in, providing appropriate veterinary care, before adopting them out to loving homes. Providing food, shelter, and medical care to so many animals is both time consuming and expensive. The Wickerds both have full-time jobs to help finance some of the costs of the shelter.

Griswold's proximity to Groton has provided Forgotten Angels with some dedicated volunteers from military families. Recently, several of the sanctuary's most tireless volunteers have been transferred to other locations. In order for the animals to receive the care and attention that they need and deserve, Forgotten Angels is desperately in need of reliable volunteers. Cathy and Mark need help with office tasks such as fundraising, maintaining animal profiles on the internet, and answering phone calls. They also need hands-on help with adoptions, cleaning, socializing, and transporting the animals to veterinary appointments.

Running a sanctuary is a monumental task, particularly now that there are so many foreclosure casualties and cases of abuse, hoarding, and abandonment. Two people cannot do it all on their own, and there is no paid staff at the sanctuary. If Forgotten Angels cannot find volunteer help within the next few weeks, they will be unable to take in any more animals.

There are already too many homeless animals, and too few no-kill facilities to care for them. Please consider donating some time to the animals at Forgotten Angels. The sanctuary is convenient to eastern Connecticut and Rhode Island. The Wickerds are in need of reliable volunteers who can make regular visits to the sanctuary. Just a few hours a week can make a huge difference in the life of a homeless animal.
