New shelter opens its doors.
By Kelli Banet, Best Friends Network VolunteerHomeless pets in Bridgeport now have something to wag about. Last week, the animal control facility had a change of venue. The animals moved from the dark, overcrowded Asylum Street building to a light, spacious compound located at 236 Evergreen Street.
When the new facility is fully completed, it will provide temporary shelter for up to eighty dogs and fifty-two cats. Cats and dogs will be sheltered in separate buildings, and newcomers can be separated from the adoptable population until they are examined and observed. Since the dogs aren't facing other dogs across the kennel (as they were in the old facility), they are likely to be more relaxed, and in turn, more adoptable.
June is Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat month. Now is the perfect time to check out the new and improved Bridgeport Animal Control facilities,
and find a feline (or canine) companion!
