TNR'd Ferals Slated for Trap and Kill Need Your Voice

Posted by Susan A. Robinson, Best Friends Network

This is an email I recieved from Elena Johnson, Volunteer Outreach Coordinator for Alley Cat Allies:

"I wanted to get back to you about a situation we are dealing with in VA. The Meadows of Chantilly is a community at which we have spayed/neutered over 200 cats. After cooperating and collaborating with us in the past, the management company has decided to have all of the cats trapped and killed. Please find more details on this situation on our website: Alley Cat Allies

What I’m hoping is that you can help get the word out. We have an option online for people to send a letter to Equity LifeStyle Properties in opposition of their plan to trap and kill the cats. We would like to get as many people to send a letter to the management company as possible. We would especially like to get people in Chicago to send a letter. The corporate offices are in Chicago and they are currently shying away from the bad press, so if they are getting local pressure, hopefully they will respond and work with us!"

Meadows of Chantilly's Trap-Neuter- Return Program in Jeopardy

Equity LifeStyle Properties plans trap and kill at trailer park.

On Monday residents of the Meadows of Chantilly, a community in Fairfax County, Virginia, came home to find a letter stating that their property management company, Equity LifeStyle, had hired a pest control company to trap and kill the cats, most already spayed and neutered, residing on the property.

What You Can Do:
Go to: Alley Cat Allies
and send a letter to Equity LifeStyle Properties

We would really appreciate it – and so will the cats at the Meadows of Chantilly!

Thanks goodness because our numbers mean power and there are some great AW groups out there working really hard both of these situations are being resolved without killing - go to www.alleycat.org for the updates!

I saw both of these stories on the Web yesterday and I was shocked. Crazy! The good thing is that in the Iowa case, the community is apparently just as upset about it as we are. I did do the e-mail letter option via Alley Cat Allies for the Meadows of Chantilly case. Then I posted a comment about TNR and link to ACA's website at the community site for Randolph, IA.

Thanks Yvette, I just fixed the links, when you go to the Alley Cat Allies website you will also see another urgent situation in Iowa where they are offering anyone in town $5 per cat to take care of that feral population. Hopefully people will take action in both cases. Unbelievable - but as a network we are strong.
