A recent cold snap has gotten us in a hurry to begin winterizing the
enclosures. Time to insulate the beds, set up heaters in the inside
areas, and make sure that everyone has access to a warm nook! Special
needs cats have moved inside completely, and of course the youngest of
the kittens are staying in the kitten room with a round the clock
heater. Last year we brought all of the kitten enclosure residents in
at night, but with the kitten room now full of younger residents, we
want to try to create a small heated space outside in the enclosure. We
have several ideas, and went out to look at materials. Until we can
settle on a better plan, David made one big insulated hideaway under a
long kotatsu table, where all the kitties were happily snuggling when
we came out this morning. Going out today to buy foam sheets to
insulate the drawer beds...
Can't
seem to get over my cold, which only got worse this past weekend, and
David's still recovering as well. Lots of school closings or individual
class closings, and many of our students are sick these days, too. Of
course the big concern is the H1N1 virus, and since that's turned up in
some of the local schools, even our youngest students are wearing
masks. It can feel a little stressful to take time off because I know
there will be so much more to do when I get started again. Have been
trying to take it easy inside, working on the computer, which has given
me a chance to get to some things I'd been meaning to do. Finally
entered most of the TNR info on the Rescue list, and put together the
October photo page. I also updated some of the cats' pages with new
photos--The photos of Fantasia are really nice, (love the new camera!)
and they show just how far she's come. I like the idea of putting
little bits of the month's news on a monthly photo page, as it seems
like a quick way for folks to catch up on what's gone on. It's also a nice way to share some of the great photos that we've gotten from new homes over the past month!
