Thousands come together to save the lives of two animals.Sheer coincidence or Divine Intervention?Within days of each other --- and a couple of days away from Best Friends Day --- a cat in Connecticut and a dog in Alabama were saved from certain death. Maybe the planets were aligned in a compassionate way? No.
All the signs point to a different force: The Kindness Revolution.Lewis the Cat was on trial for scratching and clawing neighbors near his home. (Rumor has it the Avon Lady sported a scratch or two, that, luckily matched her lipstick shade.) Spencer was set to be put down simply because he is a pit bull.
Enter the Kindness Revolution. Thanks to the public outcry from throngs of outraged animal lovers, the animals were spared. Lewis gets to stay home with his person as long as he never ventures outside uncaged.
Lewis' StorySpencer was saved in the 11th hour by the energy of thousands coming together on behalf of this Alabama dog. Spencer is now learning what love and kindness can mean. Two of his favorite things to do are give kisses and stretch out on his new bed. See Spencer pictured above enjoying his freedom.
Spencer's StoryWhat a wonderful way to kick off Best Friends Day and Best Friends Weekend, with literally thousands of people rallying to save the lives of two animals. Two! That’s what the Kindness Revolution is all about...a better world through kindness to animals.
This weekend, the push is on for everyone to celebrate Best Friends Day and Best Friends Weekend by conducting random acts of kindness to animals. To document the occasion, Best Friends built a high-tech Kindness Odometer which records in real time people’s acts of kindness toward animals from all over the country.
Yesterday, the count peaked at 550. Today, it’s over 700. And remember, that doesn’t include the thousands of people who came to the aid of Spencer and Lewis. (And by the way, if you were one of those people, please feel free to add your contribution to the Kindness Odometer by logging onto
Best Friends Network You don’t have to save a pet’s life to participate: Take a dog on a long walk. Adopt a companion animal for your children, your grandchildren or yourself. Go vegetarian for a day. Or for a week. Or for life. The animals will thank you!
