I was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and moved to the U.S. in 1997 on an athletic scholarship. After college I moved up the East Coast and worked for the City of Richmond (Virginia) Animal Care & Control. In 2008 I moved to Austin (Texas) to play roller derby for the Texas Rollergirls and started working for the City of Austin Animal Services.
I have over 15 years of experience in the public service arena, and a deep passion for helping animals and people that started at a very young age while volunteering for the Cape Town (South Africa) SPCA and wildlife services.
While working for Austin Animal Services, I spent my initial few years as an Animal Protection Officer and enjoyed spending time becoming an expert on local and state legislation. In the more recent (several) years, I worked as a Human Educator- spending my time creating and implementing programs and services for the Austin community primarily focusing on Spay Neuter Outreach for companion animals, the Community Cat Program (TNR), and ultimately shelter intake prevention.
I currently live Austin with my two senior dogs Gwendoline and Drexil, my roommate's dog Maggie, and a small community cat colony that I care for. I am super excited to begin my NMHP Regional Specialist (Great Plains) position with Best Friends and to be able to help even more animals across the nation.
