When an inspector with the department went to the kennel, the dogs were found to have “inadequate shelter, frozen water dishes and some with coats so matted they struggled to walk and eat,” (as reported by
The Northwestern.)
Cary Riehle, the breeder, agreed to relinquish all the dogs rather than bring the facility up to county standards. The surrendered dogs included: “38 beagles, three mixed breeds and 23 designer breeds including golden doodles, Pomeranian poodles, bichon frises, spaniels and yorkie poos.” Shelters estimate that the cost to get all the dogs spayed or neutered, groomed and a dental cleaning will cost over $12,000.
