Back in Black

Over 150 Best Friends No More Homeless Pets Network partners showcased their black and mostly-black dogs and cats with Best Friends’ Back in Black. This special adoption promotion focused on helping black animals – traditionally harder to place – throughout the month of May.

With over 3,000 adoptions for black and mostly-black animals reported by our partners, this promotion helped find many homes for these animals in need.  And with almost 1,800 of these dogs and cats being adopted from a shelter or from a rescue who pulled them from a shelter, that’s a lot of animals in black now in homes!

Best Friends provided participating Network partners with marketing collateral to help promote their adoptions. Professionally designed, ready-to-use or editable materials were available to download, such as a promotional flyer, web images, Facebook images and messages, banners, kennel tags, and much more. Additionally, a free marketing kit filled with promotional flyers and kennel tags was mailed to participating Network partners.

SPCA of Anne Arundel County in Annapolis, MD found homes for 53 cats and 24 dogs during this year’s Back in Black promotion!

“As a newbie to the "Back in Black" adoption promotion, we loved that we could showcase longtime residents that had a hard time getting adoptions. The provided cage cards were well received by the staff, volunteers, and interested adopters which I know helped showcase the animals. We will definitely participate in the adoption promotion again!”  Rita Melvin with SPCA of Anne Arundel County

Lowering your adoption fees or having another adoption special during this promotion could mean more homes for animals in black, and is noted on our national partner listing for this promotion. For more information on the most common concerns regarding reduced adoption fees, check out this helpful document. This year during Back in Black, almost 85% of participating Network partners offered reduced-fee adoptions, and with over 3,000 adoptions, they must be on to something!
