My hope is that the Animal Control officers in charge of the investigation turn over all the breeders' paperwork to the IRS. With all the sales online, etc., there are probably tax implications. Dealing with the IRS on tax evasion charges might take a little wind out fo their sails.
I also encourage everyone here to make his or her displeasure known any time any publication or news source suggests in any way shape or form that anyone should consider buying a dog at a pet store. The most recent issue of Redbook has a one-page spread on getting an animal and it mentions several different options for obtaining one, including pet stores. Until dogs are no longer sold in pet stores, the puppy mill trade will flourish. I would also encourage local newspapers/classifieds not to accept pet for sale ads from private citizens, especially if they are not local. One ad in the local paper here was for "designer dogs" and offered to deliver puppies. What will it take before the public figures out that this is a HUGE red flag?
Bravo to the rescues involved in this latest save. Please consider donating to S.P.O.T. or the Skagit Valley Humane Society, or Everett Animal Control. There is at least one rescue group locally using this event as a means to request donations for itself, even though they are not involved. Do your research and don't believe everything you read.

Many legislators don't understand that these are multi-million dollar businesses that get away with cheating on taxes because there are no licensing requirements and no inspections.
And the puppy mill lobby wants to keep it that way! That's why they always oppose breeder regulations.
Legislators need to understand that this puppy mill industry is organized crime, and laws and regulations are needed for a multitude of reasons cruelty, health dangers, disease spread, consumer fraud, and TAX EVASION!
Another instance where cruel humans inflict so much suffering on innocent animals. And again rescue people and shelters who are already overburdened with animals will have to try and help these. And probably, these people will get a slap on the wrist and go right back out there and set up shop somewhere else. I wish the people luck who are helping these dogs and hope they can somehow find the money, volunteers and homes for them.

Heartless people who treat animals this way, should go to jail for a long, long, time. Then they would know how it feels to be in a cage. They should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. The courts need to give severe punishment we need to change the laws. Then maybe people would think twice.

FYI 72 of the puppies are being taken care of at the NOAH facility, I know they could also use some donations. They can be contacted at www.thenoahcenter.org

And if you would like to see how a percentage of the veterinary profession is colluding with the puppy mills,

Spent all day Sat. with other voluteers to help with mill pups in WA. I realized: Politics! So much crap is going on between groups. Great need for one person to be communications go-between so things would move more smoothly.
Local fears are about shelter euth'g older dogs, etc., to make room for all new, small dogs.... Not taking up offers of additional care, etc.
Shelters and Rescue groups now saying they DO NOT need any more help at this time....other than donations.
For those of us who have other dogs and want one of the pups or to foster, CANNOT do it until certain that they do not carry any diseases, etc. Frustrating, still.
So many people want to help and cuddle all these pups...hopefully, once charges filed, all will find good homes.
Usually, hard to find small rescues in this area. Just noticed Best Friends' LA program to move small dogs from So. CA. Were it not for the latest busts, this area would be great for that.
Impatient. Just want to start making up for the horrible things that other humans have done....to one of these little guys.
As noted/done - FABulous idea to contact Obama re legis.
Sure wish all humans saw animals as equal, if not superior, souls....

And it is local, state, and federal tax evasion!
Also sales tax evasion.
dkmulhern - sorry but not surprised to hear that politics are involved. lots of good publicity and money in the little guys, eh? i have offered to foster a mom and pups and , since i'm transporting a rescued cat to the seattle area on saturday, to transport moms and/or families to foster homes along the I5 corridor between seattle and portland on my way home. if it's true that most of these dogs are pregnant, they will need to reach out to LOTS of foster families. i think their hands are somewhat tied until they can get the accused perps to give up the dogs, though. sad but true.
There is a special place for these puppy mill owners. It is called hell. May they have an eternity of misery. I am amazed when they pretend they don't realize there is anything wrong. Look at these poor dogs faces you can see their misery. The laws must change and MUST CHANGE NOW.
I just read the MSNBC article that ruthy92 had posted. My question is why is it hard to prove cruelty was not on purpose? what am I not getting?
