Home for the unwanted

By Barbara Silverman

Animals bought on the spur of the moment, then abandoned or abused as they become too difficult or too expensive to care for, is a sad fact known all too well to animal rescues and shelters.

A social ill that affects not only domestic pets such as cats, dogs, rabbits, and birds but also exotic animals such as snakes, pigs, tortoises, monkeys and a wide variety of other creatures.

A state of affairs known only too well to Mark Amey and Siouxsie Gillet of Bovingdon, Hertfordshire, England. Working closely with the RSPCA this remarkable couple has remodeled their home into a sanctuary for unwanted and abused exotic animals.

There are not many people who will open their doors to reptiles, bats, birds and spiders but Mark and Siouxsie have, proving that where there is a will there is a home.
