The RASCAL Unit (Roaming Animal Sterilization Clinic at Low cost) initiated their pet food pantry in October. The Pet Food Pantry is designed to provide pet food to local shelters and rescues, low-income families, senior citizens, feral cat caregivers, as well as area shelters to which the unit travels. As the economy is facing difficulties and as word spreads about this program, more requests for help are being received. One of the goals of this program is to keep pets from being surrendered to a shelter due to a family’s inability to afford food.
RASCAL is also working in cooperation with others to start a program that would provide the pets of senior citizens with food and veterinary care so that they can remain in the home where they are loved and happy.
The RASCAL Unit, Ltd was founded in March of 2006. To date, they have performed almost 20,000 spay/neuter surgeries. Last year, they sterilized 4,646 dogs, 4,781 cats, and 70 rabbits.
The RASCAL Unit provides not only low cost sterilization for area companion animals, but also offers many other veterinary services. They have a clinic in Dublin, as well as the roaming unit that visits surrounding areas.
What You Can Do:
The RASCAL Unit Pet Food Pantry is in need of food donations to keep the pantry stocked and running. They will accept almost any pet food including dog (dry or wet dog/puppy food), cat (dry or wet cat/kitten food), bird, rabbit, and other small animal food, as well as dog and cat treats.
Other items are needed but do not have to be new: dog/cat toys, leashes, collars, cat litter, cat litter boxes, clean blankets, towels, washrags, and cleaning supplies (bleach, disposable gloves, sponges, brooms, mops, trash bags, paper towels, dish soap, etc).
The Pet Food Pantry is a part of RASCAL Charities, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
