The economic crisis in our country is affecting everyone from people to their pets.

The economic crisis in our country is affecting everyone from people to their pets. A local group in Lafayette, Indiana is addressing this problem with the Hope for Pets Food Pantry.

Our nation is in the midst of an economic crisis and it is affecting us all. Unemployment is on the rise, homes are being foreclosed, and the effects of this crisis are being felt at all levels. These effects are not restricted to people alone, pets can be the silent victims in this horrible situation.

There has already been media coverage regarding the growing problem of pets being surrendered due to foreclosure. While it is important to aid these pets who are the innocent victims of this crisis, one group is going the extra mile to try to help those pets who are still in their homes remain there. TriCounty TNR and Seeds of Hope Ministries co-founded Hope for Pets Food Pantry which goes that extra mile.

When families are faced with limited funds, purchasing food for their pets may be a challenge and Hope for Pets Food Pantry is available to help alleviate this issue. The food pantry is located in Lafayette at the Buttery Shelf Eatery, 927 Main Street and is open to the public the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Not only does Hope for Pets provide much needed pet food to families in need, they also hope to assist with altering pets in the future and are beginning a pet food coupon bank.

One of the founders of this food bank found an older, abandoned dog recently. She helped place her with a local rescue group where she can find care, a warm place to stay, and eventually a forever home. It is Hope for Pets belief that their efforts can help pets like this one remain in their homes rather than falling victim to abandonment.

What a remarkably humane and sensible idea!!! Love it! Would love to see this type of program instituted nationwide. It will make such a meaningful difference, not only to the animals, but to the folks who love them.
