In an October 20 article for the Indo-Asian News Service, Vishal Gulati writes that, in the Indian state Himachal Pardesh, otherwise known as “the region of snowy mountains,” the nation's second Butterfly Park is scheduled to open and be ready in one year.
The park, which is being created thanks to 1.2 million dollars in funding, will be home to over 300 species of butterflies. This park will be good for both nature lovers and the Lepidoptera species (a species of insect including butterflies and moths), who have been suffering a population decline recently all over the world.
The park will be equipped with a conservatory, a nature park, and a museum, all of which will help with the study of habitat loss and will aid in understanding the effects of the destruction of shrubs like lantana and hibiscus, and poisonous sprays such as pesticides and herbicides.
Issues such as these have left many butterfly species very susceptible to the possibility of extinction. It is the hope of the park to prevent such tragedies in the future and help butterflies flourish for years to come.
