Daily Mail helps to pay for Samson’s operation.

By Barbara Silverman

What happens when you cross a Great Dane with a Newfoundland? Well ask Julie and Ray Woods of Boston, Lincolnshire.

They will reply by showing you Samson. A four year old black dog that, when standing on his hind legs, reaches 6 feet 6 inches. The size of a Shetland pony his back is higher than a table and his drinking bowl is the kitchen sink.

Adopted as a six-month-old puppy from the RSPCA, Samson grew and grew and grew. When he developed a back leg problem the Woods were concerned over the enormous vet bill that they were facing. At this point The Daily Mail stepped in with financial help.

Dr. Christopher Stork performed the complicated operation and though it will be several months before the full results are known, Samson is recovering well and using the leg.
