On November 15, 2008, gathering at 6:45 pm for a 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. event, students of the University of Memphis School of Law invite all concerned citizens to meet law student members of Memphis Law Animal Advocacy at public property adjoining the Memphis and Shelby County Animal Shelter.
This public assembly and candlelight vigil is the first of its kind. Recognizing that action must be taken to stop the continuous, senseless death of innocent dogs and cats, MLAA invites all compassionate citizens to meet on this night to come together and honor these pets' memory.
Criticized by some for holding it in a "bad part of town," MLAA asks, what is a bad part of town?" Judged for holding it at the shelter, because it is in the middle of nowhere, MLAA asks, "Why is the shelter removed from more trafficked areas of the city?" Questioned as to why hold a vigil for pets, when human groups of the population suffer as well, MLAA asks, "Aren't we all safer in a community that unites to be a voice for the defenseless?"
MLAA looks forward to meeting and greeting all citizens who attend and welcoming them to this event. Bring coffee, hot chocolate -- candles will be provided. An opportunity for all attendees to talk will be facilitated, and the assembly will provide a neutral opportunity to submit ideas and proposals for how we, as a community, can combat this killing, which in recent history was the THIRD highest in the United States!
Date: Saturday, November 15
Time: 6:45 to 8:00 p.m.
Place: public property adjoining the Memphis and Shelby County Animal Shelter
3456 Tchulahoma Road
Memphis, Tennessee

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
- Please attend this service, where the animal welfare advocates hope to “recognize and celebrate pet life and to memorialize this problem and illustrate to this city that citizens want this problem addressed, in the belief that everyone is safer in a city that recognizes the causes of the defenseless.”
- If you want to add a cat or dog to your family, please save a life and adopt. Many wonderful animals can be found at Memphis Animal Services or search for one on Petfinder.
