The release of "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" has animal advocates worried that Chihuahua's will be subject to the fate of other breeds popularized by film. Both "101 Dalmations" and "Beethoven" caused the popularity of these breeds to soar and consequently the numbers of these breeds surrendered to shelters across the country to increase.

Since news of this movie first spread, Best Friends has been looking for ways to slow the rush of Chihuahua buying that is sure to follow the movie's success. Best Friend's staff has discovered that the movie has a rescue angle and that the star of the movie, Papi, is a rescued Chihuahua.
Still, Best Friends has lots of information that you can share to help make sure that you are well informed about this situation and what you can do.
How can you help?
Encourage any friends, families, or acquaintances to adopt a rescue Chihuahua if they are planning an addition to their furry family. Check out www.petfinder.com for adoptable pets in your area.
