Memorial service for Donna Bellion on Saturday, September 20
A memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Donna Bellion, a hero to the animals of San Marcos, Texas and surrounding areas, is scheduled for Saturday, September 20.
Donna was the founder of the Mutt Strutt, an annual event which raises funds to assist animals of the San Marcos Animal Shelter. Over the years, thousands of dollars have been generated to help provide for the wellness of shelter animals and subsidize their adoption fees.
In addition to her personal rescue work with stray cats and dogs, she also served as a member of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board, participated in the original San Marcos Task Force for Pet Overpopulation in 1999, promoted and helped maintain the city dog park, as well as managed her Critter Sitter pet sitting service since 1985.
“She was passionate about animal welfare, shelter adoption outreach, rescue, spay/neuter and improvements and expansion at the shelter and the list goes on and on ... including her love of horses and wolves,” noted Sharri Boyett, Executive Director of Pet Prevent a Litter of Central Texas. “Without Donna ... there is a gigantic hole in our hearts and now we must all work just a little bit harder to fill in the gap she leaves.”
Although originally scheduled for last Saturday, her memorial was postponed a week due to Hurricane Ike.
