What a contrast to the massive new profit-venture by Animal 'Humane' Society, as described in its 'ad' in Best Friends:

(I posted my comment, the first one under the article/ad, under my BF handle "kittychump" - I hope it stays posted.)

Hey kittychump - Great comment!

I, too, question the AHS airport boarding kennel. Lets be clear, they are spending, according to the press, $4.5 million to build this facility. The press also quotes AHS leaders as saying that within 2 years they are hoping to generate $100,000 in income from this venture. So, to be clear, they are investing millions, hoping for a 2.5% return on that investment?

From a business perspective, this venture looks insane. From a priority perspective, this venture looks insane (Note: they still do not offer low-cost spay neuter services. They have no TNR program. They still kill nearly half of the animals that come to their shelter). Yet they can afford to invest millions on speculation that they may get that low rate of return?

Guess what? Every dollar spent on spay neuter will yield about $10 in cost savings down the road.

But none of that is the part that bothers me the most. The part about the kennel at the airport that I really hate is this: The "luxury" "dog suites" measure 4 X 6. Sounds like there is nothing "luxury" or "suite" about this place, especially when the funds building it could be put to so much good elsewhere.
