Are you familiar with Best Friends Animal Society?

Tammy Grimes, founder of Dogs Deserve Better, brought the "Chain Off" to the Chicagoland area this past weekend. Tammy, along with 16 others, chained themselves to dog houses to raise awareness about the suffering endured by the six million chained dogs in the United States. The event, held at the DuPage County Fairgrounds, was part protest, but more about awareness raising.

Best Friends Ambassadors Yvette Pina, Francisco Pina, and Pam Stella tabled at the "Chain Off" event. Also in attendance was Dundee Boy, a Best Friends adoptee. Visitors to the event were either absolutely oblivious to Best Friends or big fans. The ambassadors lured people to their table by asking, "Are you familiar with Best Friends Animal Society?", then rattling off info about some of Best Friends major efforts; 22 of Michael Vicks dogs, television show called Dogtown on National Geographic, Iowa Flood rescue, in addition to the Katrina rescue - usually the visitor had heard of one of those events. All visitors were given pamphlets or magazines about Best Friends Animal Society.

"Is Dundee Boy really here?"
Dundee Boy set a great example of the type of animals Best Friends Animal Society takes in. Many visitors were surprised that such a beautiful dog was homeless at one point in his life. Some visitors came right up looking for Dundee Boy. Dundee Boy loved all the attention and especially meeting some of his fans.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

• Although the main event in Chicago is now over, you can still sponsor any of the Chain Off 2008 participants through July 7. Please make a pledge to help the lives of tethered dogs today.
• You too can help represent Best Friends at local events. Please see the Best Friends Ambassador community for more information about volunteering for the program.

Please don't start spreading rumors, I'll be kicked off the ambassadors team!!

Not a chance! Your creativity and problem solving techniques are without equal. So do the prizes come with a year's worth of dog food and a new collar?

Sheryl I agree. I think my first missread would have been a pretty interesting scenario. I could just see the winner's expression when Lucas took over the couch. Although, he's a real teddy bear and I'd share a couch with Lucas anytime.

LOLOL!!! I think Yvette means that she and Pam rattled off widely-known Best Friends work, such as taking 22 Michael Vick dogs, Dogtown being featured on National Geographic, Iowa & Katrina rescues, etc.

But hey, maybe we should show up to watch (and take video) when the faffle winners demand their prizes.

Okay, maybe I misread. You "rattled off" 22 Michael Vick dogs, not "faffled off" the dogs.

Okay, I give. How'd you raffle off 22 Michael Vick dogs? Better yet, can I be there when you deliver them to the winners?

Great event, guys!

Wow! Dundee Boy is becoming quite a celebrity. I wonder what "star" treatments he'll be demanding? :)
