One step closer to being a more humane city, two steps back. Protection for force fed ducks and geese ends later this month.

What You Can Do:
Continue to educate people on the cruelty of this "delicacy", eventually we will move closer to being civilized.

The vote was led by Mayor Richard M. Daley, who called the measure that went into effect in August 2006 the 'silliest' ordinance the council's ever passed.

It's not a silly ordinance, Mayor! It may be difficult to enforce, but the ordinance, at the very least, is a message to the rest of the world that Chicago condemns cruelty to animals.

Some ignorant people were saying that the foie gras ban made Chicago the laughingstock of the nation/world, but the only ones who laugh are those who would condone the abuse of ducks/geese in the process of making foie gras. Who cares about being mocked by such people?

For the sake of animals and for a more civilized society, Mayor, do what's right and let the foie gras ban stand.

The mayor called for a vote on repealing the ordinance without even allowing for discussion. He dismissed the ban as telling people what to eat. He just doesn't get that it's not about the Menu Police, it's about animal abuse. No wonder Chicago Animal "Care" (ha!) and Control is such a disgrace.
