BALTIMORE— Alley Cat Allies, in an effort to help reduce the population of stray and feral cats in Baltimore and end the needless killing of cats in the City of Baltimore, will host twice monthly free informational workshops at two local shelters.

The workshops will provide information on Trap-Neuter-Return – the only humane and effective method of managing the population of outdoor cats. With no more kittens, the colony does not grow, and neutering ends behaviors associated with cats, such as yowling and fighting. The cats are vaccinated and fed on a regular schedule – creating a safety net for both the cats and the community.

Held at the Maryland SPCA and the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS), these workshops are an opportunity for residents to learn more about how they can help their community’s cats through the area’s low-cost spay/neuter programs. These workshops are also an opportunity for caregivers of feral cats to meet one another and network to create a safety net for the cats.

Feral cats are outdoor cats that are otherwise healthy but are unsocialized to humans and therefore unadoptable. Feral cat colonies exist in virtually every community in the U.S., and millions of people across the country feed and take care of these cats.
