Hi all,
The Tom Cat Special started out slow, which I thought was odd since only one vet was participating, offering a total of 10 neuters.
But, when the calls started coming in, the spots suddenly filled up.
To anybody else doing the Tom cat Special, I recommend making follow-up calls to participants. I referred 13 cats (the vets were asked to overbook a bit because of the percentage of no shows expected; the vets were instructed to let coordinators know when their appointments slots have filled up; so I didn't hesitate to refer a total of 13 cats for neuter). By making the follow-up calls, I realized that 3 cats would not be able to participate....2 were female (not sure how that one slipped by, but it's a good lesson), and the other cat has a crazy situation and is no longer in the household. So, now I will be able to refer a few others.
Also, I've been able to assist (provide information to) people who need help with S/N of female cats and other animals.
So, everything is going great in spite of the late and rocky/intermittent activity on my part. Since the number of referrals I will be make is small, I will send a personal thank you note to each cat that is fixed. I better get started, since a few have already been neutered, The vet apparently is getting recipients in for surgery very quickly. : -) It's so warm in south Louisiana that animals will go into heat any time now....the season might have already begun.
The vet who is participating is very exited, as are her office workers. I'm copies of my info for use next year. Hopefully, I will have lots more time to devote to the project in 2009.
