Rescued Dogs In Danger of Being Returned to Breeder
By Barbara Silverman
UPDATE APRIL 9, 2008
The hearing was held yesterday however, judgement has been postponed until May.
The judge is opposed to returning the dogs to Laporte, who plans to resume his breeding operations. He is reviewing several legal points trying to find a way to terminate Laporte's ownership of these 18 dogs.
We will know more in May.
PLEASE
If you have not yet signed the petition please do so, it will only take seconds of your time. We're trying for 15,000 and we still need less than 800.
UPDATE
Hearing postponed until April 08, 2008. Please write and let Judge Sirois that returning the dogs would be inhumane.

In December of 2006, about 101 wire fox terriers were rescued from deplorable conditions just outside Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Some of the dogs had to be euthanized because of the condition that they were in, and others lost their eyesight due to having never seeing daylight. Journalists, who responded to the story, were vomiting at the scene before them. The situation was so bad that the house was condemned and knocked down.
Marc Andre LaPorte, who was responsible for these dogs, was recently tried by the Canadian courts and found guilty of animal cruelty. He faces a slap on the hand with a mere $4000 fine and a few days in jail. As horrible as this is, it may get even more dreadful.
LaPorte has requested that 18 of those dogs be returned to him. On Feb. 22, 2008 (just a week away) he will be sentenced. At the same hearing, the judge is to decide if LaPorte is to get any of his fox terriers back!
Over the last year these dogs began to learn what it was like to be real dogs. They are learning to be part of families, learning to eat, learning to be touched and learning how to be loved. Now they may be taken from these wonderful new homes and placed back in the house of horrors.
Imagine making these dogs go back. Imagine being one of the families who spent months rehabilitating a dog, only to have it put back to the deplorable conditions from which they saved.
A remarkable person has spearheaded a writing campaign to the judge and a petition asking that no dogs be returned to this monster. The goal is 10,000 signatures, they now have 13,772
Help send a clear message to the judge. Help these dogs.
PLEASE TAKE JUST A MINUTE TO SIGN THIS PETITION and if you are so inclined, please pass this on to your friends and ask them to join us.

Below is a list of Montreal newspapers and TV stations. Please take a few minutes to send a letter encouraging the media to cover this story. Perhaps by doing so more voices will be raised to help these dogs. Though this is an emotional situation, please remember to keep your letters short and polite.
