"Puppy Tales: The Adventures of Adam the Australian Shepherd" is a heartwarming children's book from first-time author Kelly Carper Pollen. Adam is an abused and abandoned puppy that winds up on a Texas Hill Country ranch, where he shares a series of fun-loving, spirited adventures with "Momma" and "Poppa," Tinker Bell the cat, and his horse friends Ace, Durango and Cody. The author uses this entertaining cast of characters to weave a story around the timeless values of love, discipline and friendship.

Kelly Carper Polden is an award-winning, professional communicator with more than 20 years of experience writing, editing and creating marketing communications materials for a variety of national and international companies. After moving to the Hill Country in 2006, she started a freelance writing and communications consulting business.

Kelly was inspired to put her first children's story to words while running the trails in nearby Pedernales Falls State Park with Adam, her rescued pup. Complemented with sketches by Johnson City-based illustrator Cheryl Eckerd, “Puppy Tales” is the first of what is sure to be many stories of Adam’s adventures with his friends on the ranch.

In addition to being a communications professional, Kelly is actively involved in many civic organizations. A portion of the book's proceeds will be donated to Austin Aussie Rescue and the Hill Country Children's Advocacy Center. For the past 14 years the Hill Country Children's Advocacy Center has provided services at no charge for abused children and their non-abusing family members in seven central Texas counties, including Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, Mills and San Saba. Kelly is a member of the HCCAC board of directors.

She is also involved with Austin Aussie Rescue, providing pro bono marketing and communications services. Since 2001 Austin Aussie Rescue has provided foster homes and approved adoptions for more than 150 rescued Australian Shepherds. Both groups are 501c3 non-profit organizations.
