November 20, 2007
The Honorable Governor Jon S. Corzine
Office of the Governor
P. O. Box 001
Trenton, New Jersey 08625
Governor Corzine:
It is my sincere plea that the Governor of the State of New Jersey grant "clemency" to "Congo," the German Shepherd slated to be executed for allegedly inflicting wounds upon the illegal immigrant gardeners at the residence of Guy and Elizabeth James in Princeton Township. It is clear that the municipal judge’s decision, in this case, warrants review and scrutiny.
Reviewing the manner in which the event unfolded reveals that this was not some random, unprovoked attack, but the result of the gardeners' blatant disregard for the warnings issued to them by the property owner. Had they heeded the owner's warnings, they might not be in the position they're in today. Our society CANNOT ALLOW the accountability factor to slip further and further from our grasp, because, frankly, we're already about as far away from the way it should be as we can afford to get. This brings to mind the case where the woman at a McDonald's spilled hot coffee on her and was awarded $4 million. I suppose, in that case, had the warning been on the cup (like we really NEED it, now, come on!!!), she would have been, as they say, "S.O.L." This dog's owner CLEARLY issued a warning saying that the gardeners should have waited until he could get dressed and come down, stating the advisory in the illegals' native tongue (thereby removing the "I no understand"/"Yo no entiendo" factor).
These were the events as they happened...
1. Two illegal immigrants were preparing to engage in gardening work at the family's house.
2. They arrived an hour early.
3. They were told by the husband to stay in their truck until he could get out of the shower and get some clothes on (hence, the warning).
4. The husband speaks Spanish and spoke to them in Spanish so there is no question they understand what they were told to do.
5. They directly disobeyed the husband and walked into the backyard with the wife (who had just pulled into the driveway). Since they were hired by the dogs' owner, this would represent direct dereliction in their duty. It could even be construed as "frolic in detour," if you really wanted to take it to it's slightly less-than-logical end.
6. The two adult German Shepherds and their puppies came running.
7. The gardeners panicked (they wouldn't have had to if they had heeded the owner's advice and stayed in their truck).
8. ONE GARDENER GRABBED THE WIFE AND WRESTLED HER TO THE GROUND, USING HER AS A PROTECTIVE SHIELD (this could constitute an assault and battery charge. This now shifts the perspective of the dog's action as defending its owner).
9. Congo thought his owner was being attacked and went after the gardener (GOOD BOY!!!!!).
10. The gardener used his rake to beat at the puppies and inflicted some injuries on them.
11. The gardener changed his story three times (interesting note on official bias: when the owner said the gardener changed his story five times, the dog warden said "No, he only changed his story 3 times.").
Given everything shown here, I would hope that LOGIC, JUSTICE and ACCOUNTABILITY would prevail, and that Congo would be allowed to live out his life with his owners. This dog should NOT be destroyed. Destruction of this animal would lower our collective status further into accountability depravity.
In fact, I would consider leveling charges against the gardeners. Criminal trespass sounds good (the owner specifically warned them to stay in the truck, yet they disobeyed and entered his property). I'd also, referring back to earlier in this writing, consider assault and b
Thank you to everyone for this outpouring of support for Congo. As I have been, I will continue to update and bring you information regarding the status of congo's case. As a news writer for the Network I must keep a nuetral position on what I write about but this has been a tough one. Keep on calling the Governor, the Judge, The Mayor and council and anyone who will listen. We need to save Congo.
Thank you,
George

I have emailed Gov. Corzine and told him that I hope all parties to this travesty of justice are sued by the owners of Congo. If I were held and pulled down by anyone, my dog would go after them to protect me. These gardeners ignored the request to stay out of the yard until the dogs were secured, so it is their own fault - and an insurance award of $250,000 to someone who is at fault just shows what a joke our laws really are.
Congo's Law was introduced on Monday!

I am sorry to make a post that is not about Congo but someone here has directed you to a website that sells puppies. Selling animals is not in the spirit of Best Friends.
SPAM ALERT! Below you will find a poster named zckstrbxtr telling you to go to a website. But it sends you to a website that sells puppies!
BAD BAD BAD SPAM

http://www.montgomeryhumane.com/There is a dog named Louis Vuitton who was terribly abused and you can find his story at the REAL website above. You can go directly to the beginning of his story here:
http://www.montgomeryhumane.com/meetlouisvuittonvideo1.htmI hate this kind of thing. I hate abuse and I hate spammers.
Dear POSTER OF THE WRONG LINK: You have directed us to a link for Louis Vuitton luggage on a website that SELLS PUPPIES and calls itself Montgomery Humane Society. It seems too coincidental. Did you set it up to get paid for the nunber of hits you generate? I sincerely hope not because you are USING THE PLIGHT OF AN ABUSED ANIMAL TO MAKE MONEY if you did this. Since you registered at Best Friends in July I am wondering if you have done this before???!!!!

I just called the Governors office and hope everyone else will too. Given the circumstances, I think almost any dog has the potential for the same reaction if it perceives such a threat to its owner, especially on its own property. The dog obviously has a loving home to return to... the purpose of killing the dog? At this point none. So please call the Governors office - a nice lady will answer the phone and tell her to let the Governor know you live in NJ and would like him to get Congo back to his owners.
I just called and emailed the governor's office. I was told Congo has been returned to his family for now. This dog did nothing wrong and everything right to protect his family. My dogs would do the same thing. A different note - visit montgomeryhumanesociety.com and click on Louis Vuitton and see what happened to him. I just called the humane society because there have been no recent updates and was told they are forbidden by court order to provide any updates until the grand jury decides whether to indict the guy - he made $50,000 bail. This will take place in early December. Meanwhile Louis is doing great - hair is beginning to grow back although all of it never will. He can see without problems. Please visit Louis and forward. I'm from Box Springs, GA and have 8 dogs.

I am sorry, but I am on the dog's side in this. These illegals pretend they don't understand English and even with the owner telling them in Spanish, they still trespassed. If you put this dog down, you are as guilty as the gardeners who provoked this. This is another instance where the illegals are winning again. Let them take their insurance settlement and go back to where they came from. Congo thought he was protecting his mistress and for this he is condemned. When will our country wake up about these immigrants?

I am completely on the dogs' sides. The 2 individuals were told to stay in their truck, which they ignored. Also, when a dog sees his owner being "attacked", he will of course try to protect then. Also, if they ran, the dogs were just following their instinct to chase "prey". Please save Congo! He has done nothing wrong.
Sincerely,
Beth
I feel its terrible to kill a dog for protecting his family. The people should've listened & stayed intheir car, but they didn't & thats what happens when YOU DON"T LISTEN! Then they attached the owner, what else do they exspect the dog to do, wag his tail & say hello??? I'm for the dog in this case. What good is a dog like that if he can't protect the people he loves!
