Deaf dogs and cats can make a wonderful addition to any home - can you provide a patient, loving environment, with extra hugs and kisses for them?

Deaf animals are special creatures. They are extremely intelligent and rely more on tactical touch and visual cues rather than hearing. Many think that these animals have a disadvantage in the world and should be euthanized for their own good. This is simply NOT TRUE! People are now learning that deafness in a pet is not a barrier to owning or training them. When training a deaf dog, the trick is to use hand signals and exaggerated facial expressions. Make sure they are consistent because this will help your pet learn quicker.
Deaf Animal Row is an online site that features deaf dogs and cats across the nation that need forever homes. This site also provides many resources that can help you understand your pets needs and even some special toys just for them (more visual than squeaky)!
What you can do
There are currently two deaf dogs featured on deathrow (limited time in a shelter before being euthanized), one in Virginia and one in California. They could be euthanized anytime and they are sweet dogs. Please consider them and other deaf animals when looking to adopt and please spread the word about this website to your friends, family, and rescue contacts!
