Cheering on Marathon Runner Laura Jarvis

Laura Jarvis, (Click the button to the left to sponsor Laura) who is originally from Stockbridge, Michigan has also lived in Ann Arbor (Go Blue!), Los Angeles and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. When she is not training for the marathon she really enjoys her day job as a multimedia designer for the University of Michigan Law School and in her spare time she enjoys mountain biking on the Potowatomi Trail, knitting baby socks and reading as many books as possible.
Although this is Laura's first Chicago Marathon she has experience running marathons in: Carrolton, Michigan in 2005, Detroit in 2006 and Boston (and requalified!) in 2007.
When she checked out the Chicago Marathon site for possible charities she only looked at Best Friends. She has always had "Heinz-57" type rescues from the local Humane Society and Rescue Animal Adoptions. Pictured at the top are her kitties: Jack and Jane, who are siblings named for the movie GI Jane. She reports that they are very supportive of her training regime, greeting her at the door when she returns from running. They do not however, get too involved, no stretching or conditioning for them! Laura believes 'they were dogs in a past life and have 'elevated' to catdom."
Laura reports that her training is going well despite the heat and explains that even in extreme weather you need to adjust. She explains, "I've done this before. I know the pitfalls, and know what must be done to stay uninjured and safe."
Training tips for other runners:
"HYDRATION with more than just water all during your run. Start slow and your pace will definitely pick up."
And having such great support at home from the furkids doesn't hurt either! Thanks Laura for sharing your story and we will be cheering you on!
