Pets of Milton-Freewater Press Release

Pets of Milton-Freewater, Inc. received word they were awarded a $10,000 grant from Handsel Foundation of Freeland, WA this past week. The grant is specifically to provide free spay/neuter and vaccinations for all the cats in trailers parks in Milton-Freewater. The City of Milton-Freewater will contribute $1,000 toward this effort, and The Cats Meow will match the City of Milton-Freewater's contribution. The combined funds should be enough to spay/neuter and vaccinate about 160 cats through Kennedy Mobile Veterinary Service, who will provide discounted rates for this effort

Pets of MF volunteers Paula Babb and Lyla Lampson report getting numerous calls through The Cats Meow in the last year from residents of trailer parks in Milton-Freewater reporting cruelty to cats. In talking with trailer park management, it is clear excess cat populations in these parks are causing nuisance problems which in turn causes headaches for management. Because trailer parks provide housing for many individuals who are very low income, many residents cannot afford the cost of sterilizing and vaccinating their pets. Pets of MF has stepped in to acquire funds to provide free spay/neuter and transportation which should reduce future pet overpopulation problem in this parks.

Pets of Milton-Freewater will provide transportation to the veterinary clinic and will help capture any feral and stray cats to be sterilized and vaccinated. The Cats Meow will work to adopt out all tame unclaimed cats that are adoptable. This should immediately reduce the unowned cat population. It is expected that park residents will continue to feed and monitor those too wild to adopt out. They will notify Pets of MF in the future if new cats show up so Pets of MF and park residents can trap and sterilize the newcomers and prevent a future blow-up.

Awesome! This is just the kind of targeting modeled in the post about reaching the 3% lowest income bracket of the Targeted Spay/Neuter!
