Puppy Mill Breeder Heads Up GSD Club.What You Can Do.

Dear Compassionate Pet Lovers ~

As many of you may be aware, the Board of Directors of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America (GSDCA) recently voted (9 for, 8 against) to allow puppy mill broker, Andrew Hunte of the Hunte Corporation - click here for article in as a member of the National Breed (Parent) club. This was after written objections from a good percentage of the membership.

It is my understanding Mr. Hunte was provided with copies of all the written objections and was then invited to present rebuttal to the Board which met in secret session behind closed doors. Mr. Hunte also brought gifts (handouts carrying the Hunte Corporation logo), for each of the Board Members.

He then proceeded to speak about his new incinerator, which is to take the place of what was alleged to be nothing more than a huge ditch at the back of the corporate property. As I understand it, one of the Directors was so sickened by the incinerator dialog and the pride with which the announcement was made that he was unable to sit through Mr. Hunte's presentation.

As the proud guardian of two foster GSDs - one rescued from a dog auction represented by puppy mill breeders from Holmes County, OH - I invite you to support our good friend, Rhea Aker of Destiny's Rescue of GSDs, in her efforts to have Mr. Hunte's membership revoked by signing the Petition "Revoke Membership of International Puppy Mill Broker, Andrew Hunte, from the German Shepherd Dog Club of America":

Is it too soon to have an update from the April 28th Board Mtg regarding this appt of Mr. Hunte? I'd love to hear if any changes have been made that would benefit the GSD's. Thanks!

Some good news on our efforts to challenge the recent nomination of Andrew Hunte to the German Shepherd Dog Club of America (GSDCA)...

Andrew Hunte's membership has been officially suspended until the April 29-30 board meeting! At that time, the GSDCA will review all submissions from club members and make a final ruling.

In response to hundreds of e-mails received from companion animal owners across the country, many of the Board members were gracious enough to respond with personal letters of thanks. Below is one such letter received from Board Member (Class of 2007), Carolyn Martello:

"Dear Mary; Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and concerned letter to the Board of the GSDCA, Inc. with you factual information on Andrew Hunte. This is exactly the type of letter and information that the Board needs to receive to change their thinking and I for one fully appreciate this. Letters like this have had an impact on some of the Board that needed to be aware and it is helping to cause enough reaction to cause some action.While I wholeheartedly agree with every single point you have made in your letter I know that some on the Board DO need to read this. Hopefully we will soon have this appalling situation resolved and some of the Board has been "moved" enough to change their vote when the time comes. My vote will always remain a NO for any membership for a person like Hunte. Again....THANK YOU!! Carolyn"

Years ago I unknowingly took my mother and her sisters to the Amish area in Ohio for a festival of crafts/food etc. NEVER AGAIN. I saw the "puppy hotels" as the article calls them. There are several amish establishments in my area and I REFUSE to patronize them for supporting the puppy mills and Mr. Hunte.
