The German Shepherd Dog Club of America has voted 9 to 8 to welcome Andrew Hunte of Hunte Corporation as a member.

The German Shepherd Dog Club of America has voted 9 to 8 to welcome Andrew Hunte of Hunte Corporation as a member.

Why is this important? Hunte Corp. is the largest US wholesaler of puppies sold in pet shops. Hunte is a distributor of puppies from puppy mills.

A significant portion of the membership of GSD Club of America objected to the offer of membership to Hunte.

Hunte was allowed an unusual secret meeting with the GSD Club Board in order to rebut members' objections. He brought them Hunte Corp. logoed items as gifts.

Hunte was overheard bragging about his new incinerator. The incinerator will apparently replace the large ditch at the back of Hunte Corp.'s property, which is now where they shovel dead dogs and puppies who finally die after gross mistreatment and abuse in puppy mills.

As one observer put it, "[T]he [GSD Club] Board voted, the result being that the man who holds the distinction of being the nation’s largest distributor of puppy mill produce is now a member of one of the largest (and formerly, most respected) breed clubs in the country. ...There seems to have been some discussion in defense of Hunte which proclaimed him as 'he is not a puppy miller, just a broker.'"

Indeed, AKC has approved of the Hunte Corporation probably because it is said to generate nearly a million registrations per year.

Trilla, I am sincerely hoping that your efforts in overturning the decision is succesful, God Speed.
The AKC would do best to make it's decisions based on ethical reasoning and intelligence, not profit and greed.

Why can't we do to the breeders & Hunte Corp pres. what they do to these animals? Lock them up in crowded cages, filthy surroundings, etc. This may sound corny, but it's how I feel. These animals have no say. Someone needs to stand up for them.

trilla, why are so many dog clubs lobbying FOR the puppy mills, against cleaning them up, and therefore helping the AKC support its puppy mill business

I am a member of the GSDCA and do not condone the "yea" actions of our board. Nor do I condone our AKC rep Dr. Carmen Battaglia's support of Hunte Corp. Our membership along with some of the board are working to overturn this decision.
