In the past year more pets have been finding themselves homeless because their families are facing tough economic times.

This summer Best Friends Team No More Homeless Pets volunteers will be working in 13 cities and communities, including Brevard County, to collect pet food for families in need in the First Home Forever Home Four Legged Food Drive.

The Brevard County's volunteer team will be collecting sealed and unexpired pet food through Labor Day weekend for Hospice of Health First’s Bright Paws Pet Food Bank . Teenagers who participate in the Bright Star Center for Grieving Children & Families will also be assisting with the Pet Food Bank distribution.

Hospice of Health First will have a pet food giveaway on Saturday, July 11th from 10 am to 2 pm at:

Hospice of Health First
1900 Dairy Rd.
Melbourne, FL 32935

Pet Food Drop Off Locations:

Daisy’s Place
587 Eau Gallie Blvd.
Melbourne, FL

Space Coast Harley
1440 Executive Circle NE
Palm Bay, FL

Bow Meow Boarding & Grooming
349 N. Orlando Ave.

In the weeks ahead, we'll be posting updates, including more drop-off locations, on the Four Legged Food Drive and events in the Brevard County communities.

Goals of the Four-Legged Food Drive

To support food pantry work and current needs for pet food in local communities by collecting pet food that will help people keep their pets in these difficult economic times

To increase awareness about homeless animals and the goal of reaching a day when there are No More Homeless Pets

First Home Forever Home

The Best Friends “First Home Forever Home” campaign focuses on all aspects of helping people make and honor a lifetime commitment to their pets. Millions of companion animals die every year in crowded shelters because their families decided to let them go for some reason. Through education, intervention and action, First Home Forever Home provides guidance and resources to help people care for their pets and keep them as loved members of their families.

Hello all, While talking to a friend in Brevard County she mentioned that Brevard Animal Control is in need of food. Is there anyway you guys could assist in helping with this? I live in Jax and have posted a notice to the rescue network I belong to. I looked on Craig's list and there is a lot of information that Animal Control needs help. Please guys help them. Sharon

Sharon, I met with the Interim Director last Friday; everything is under control (per him). Unfortunately some say otherwise; we are watching closely. In fact we were instrumental in getting our County Commissioners to agree to move the County run shelters toward No-Kill, but this will take time. Brevard County has implemented an Animal Welfare Group as well and they are meeting this evening. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts, you guys are doing an awesome job in Jacksonville. Debbie
