Tough economic times are hard on families, but this summer in Omaha, pet lovers are extending a helping hand for their neighbors in need.

Tough economic times are hard on families, but this summer in Omaha, pet lovers are extending a helping hand for their neighbors in need.

Omaha, like many cities and towns, has a homeless pet problem. The number of pets being surrendered and abandoned has increased in the past year – sadly these beloved pets often find themselves in a shelter – confused, alone and sad. Some people receiving assistance will choose to feed their pets while they go hungry.

The goals for the Four Legged Food Drive:

1. To support the Omaha Food Pantry work with current needs for pet food in Omaha

2. To help people keep the promise to give their pets a loving, forever home.

3. To increase awareness about homeless animals.

Omaha, along with 13 other cities will team up with Best Friends campaign No More Homeless Pets to collect pet food for families in need.

From July 6th through Labor Day, donations will be accepted at multiple drop locations throughout Omaha. All donations need to be in unopened manufacturer’s packaging - please make sure they haven't expired!

First Home Forever Home
The Best Friends First Home Forever Home campaign focuses on all aspects of helping people make and honor a lifetime commitment to their pets. Millions of companion animals die every year in crowded shelters because their families decided to let them go for some reason. Through education, intervention and action, First Home Forever Home provides guidance and resources to help people care for their pets and keep them as loved members of their families.
