Last Thursday, Safe Humane Chicago public affairs director Melia Carter made a guest appearance on the Safe Humane Chicago cable access show to discuss the bad business of puppy mills. This week, Melia slides over into the host seat to speak with guest Reverend Walter Johnson and his involvement with Safe Humane Chicago’s “Kids, Animals and Kindness” program.

At its core, “Kids, Animals and Kindness” teaches children proper techniques for approaching and handling animals, how to avoid dog bites, humane treatment and proper care of animals and why dog fighting and animal abuse are wrong. The program is taught through faith-based organizations. As the director of Faith Based Outreach for Safe Humane Chicago, Reverend Johnson has hosted “Kids, Animals and Kindness” presentations several times through his congregation.

“This program has positively impacted our communities,” notes Johnson. “Not only do children come away from these presentations appreciating and respecting human and animal life, they also learn how to engage or disengage as need be; they see they have choices where they thought there were none.”

The show airs Thursday at 5:30 p.m on CAN-TV Hotline 21. For channels in your local area, check listings in your local television guides.
