Adoption Alert: 3 Legged Roxie Needs a Home!

June 14, 2009, 11:34AM MT

Q: What is black, white, and brown, wiggles when it is happy, and only has three legs?

From The Humane League of Lancaster County

A: Roxie!

Roxie is an 11 month old, "toy" Australian Shepherd who has been part of our Humane League family for several months now. Roxie first came to us after her owner had stepped on her and broken her front leg. After examining her, our veterinarian decided that amputation would be the best course of action. Roxie has spent the past months healing in her foster home and she is now ready for adoption. In fact, Roxie's foster mom would love to keep her, however, she feels Roxie would be happier in a quieter household where someone is home most of the time.

Roxie loves affection, enjoys chewing on rawhides, and is housebroken as long as she is taken out on a regular basis. We're not sure what else may have happened in her past, but she is very timid around men and responds much better to women. Despite only having three legs, Roxie looks forward to spending time outside in the sunshine and likes to go for walks. She would do best in a home with an experienced dog family who will be able to give her the time and attention that she deserves!

If you are considering adopting Roxie you will need to fill out an adoption application and set up a time to meet her. Please direct all inquiries about Roxie to: Nacomi at spayneuter@humaneleague.com or (717) 393-6551 ext. 302.

I would love to adopt her just need to know how to go about it. How strange that I did not notice the missing leg as I was held spellbound by the expressive eyes.
