Community Animal Rescue and Adoption, Inc. (CARA) in Jackson is one of five winners for the month of May in The Animal Rescue Site's $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge with Petfinder.com. CARA will receive a $1,000 grant for getting the most votes during one of the five weeks in May. CARA remains eligible for the $20,000 grand prize as well as number of other grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

Community Animal Rescue and Adoption, Inc. provides food, shelter and care for over 300 abused, unwanted and stray cats and dogs. Receipt of The Animal Rescue Site’s $1,000 grant is particularly beneficial to CARA since they rely solely on private donations from individuals, businesses, as well as fund raising events to meet its needs and does not receive any public funding. The primary goal of CARA is to find loving, caring homes for its adoptable animals thereby enhancing the life-long bond between animals and people. Their services are focused on promoting responsible pet ownership through community education on proper care and treatment of all pets and the importance of spaying and neutering all companion animals.

Before the Challenge ends on July 26, more than 60 grants totaling of $100,000 will be awarded to eligible Petfinder.com members. Members of the public can vote for their favorite shelters once a day. Fifteen weekly prizes of $1,000 will be awarded to eligible Petfinder.com organizations during the Challenge. Other grants include the $20,000 grand prize, a $5,000 second prize, a $3,000 third prize, two $1,500 honorable mentions and 50 state prizes of $1,000 each. At the end of the Challenge, there will be at least one winner from each state as well as the other awards going to shelters in the United States, Canada, and the U.S. territories.

More than 12,000 Petfinder.com members are eligible to participate in the challenge and are asking their supporters to vote at [url=]The Animal Rescue Site. Participating in this fundraising effort is as simple as clicking your computer mouse. Participants can cast one vote every day for their favorite rescue. Weekly winners will be announced throughout the contest. Final winners, including the grand prize winner, will be announced on July 29, 2009. The final prizes will be awarded to the eligible organization with the highest number of votes.

Since 2002, The Animal Rescue Site has provided funding to a number of animal rescue charities through the company's innovative “Click to Give” program, direct donations through such site programs as Gifts That Give More™ and contributions paid for by items sold through the Site’s online store. The Petfinder Foundation is one of the major beneficiaries of The Animal Rescue Site's “Click to Give” program.
