I am sure you see suffering every day as I do. The lady should have spayed/neutered these animals before she had 87 dogs. The article I saw said she was selling the puppies in a parking lot. A reputable breeder does not sell puppies in a parking lot of any kind. She was selling them for $200-400 a piece with CKC (Canadian) papers which tells me the AKC (who will sell papers to anyone with money) did not sell her paperes. I have nothing against reputable breeders who breed 1-2 times yearly for health, temperament, and personality. Perhaps the county could have helped her. However, I do not know the whole story and will not comment further. Other than, where I live in TX people sell their puppies in the local Walmart parking lot. It looks like a pet shop on the weekends. It is just too sad. Many of these puppies are sick and end up at the local animal control and the local shelter. I am sure we are both on the same side and just want the breeding to stop. It is heartbreaking. People walk into the shelter and ask if we have a certain dog where they can breed the dog. I just don't underrstand it, don't people know how many are euthanized abd/or sold to research and/or end up as dog fighting bait..
The article I read about this lady -- the dogs will not be euthanized. I hope it is a good ending for them and perhaps the lady needs help and someone can convince her to stop breeding.

There are all kinds of steps that can be taken before the dogs are stolen, and other dogs likely killed to "make room." Including citing the woman, giving her a time frame to clean up, helping with spay/neuter assistance, helping with adoption assistance - but it makes more money to just take the animals. Never mind the ones who will die at the shelter. And, as I said, apparently they did not have enough food to even feed them.

The article stated that the dogs were living in "inhumane conditions" which can cause all kinds of diseases i.e. mange, parvoinfluenza, skin infections, diarrhea, burns on pads of paws, coccidia, hookworms, breathing problems, bladder infections, teeth and gum problems, ear mites etc. Why blame the shelter for taking away animals who were not being taken care of? Just because they were overall in good health, does not mean they did not have physical problems which could lead to serious medical issues even death. I am sure they were not taken away just because the "government" wanted to. If people would stop breeding, shelters would not have to continue taking animals in who should not have been bred in the first place. Don't people get it. We do not need anymore puppies. There are enough puppies killed in shelters and animal control facilities already. I am not sure what it takes for "backyard breeders" to stop breeding!! Eighty plus animals is a puppymill not a reputable breeder. A reputable breeder will breed once or twice a year and make sure the puppies are bred for health, temperament, and personality, not as a cash crop.
STOP BREEDING.

It sounds like they were unprepared and took the dogs, which they admitted to be in good health, anyway. Why not cite the owner and give her a chance to fix the issues, if the dogs were in good health? Why strain an overburdened shelter? And why take dogs you can't feed - isn't that what we call animal cruelty? Oh, I forgot - it's ok if the government does it.

By the way, I do rescue, and I've seen animals suffer *every single one* of the conditions you mentioned coming out of pounds. They are all treatable, but shelters will usually kill them rather than treat the conditions.
