Health supplements on the way to help shelter and rescue dogs in southern California
It should come as no surprise that difficult economic times are hitting everyone right now, affecting humans as well as their pets. Sadly, financial pressures are resulting in more people relinquishing their companion animals to shelters at the very same time those rescue organizations are facing decreases in financial support.
In an effort to help, i Love Dogs, Inc. is donating $2 million worth of vitamins and supplements to local animal welfare organizations this summer. It is their hope that these products will help the dogs entering shelters and rescues to stay healthy until they are adopted and reduce the need for expensive veterinary treatments.
And two million dollars worth of canine health products can certainly help a lot of dogs!
Best Friends Animal Society will be receiving $200,700 worth of products, half of which will be utilized by the Best Friends Los Angeles Programs and the other half going to help the dogs at the sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.
However, this is not the first donation the company has made to Best Friends. Martha Smith, managing editor for i Love Dogs, Inc. notes, “We made a financial contribution to the organization in 2007, and look forward to continuing to support BFAS’s rescue efforts in the years to come.”
The remainder of the donations will be distributed to:
• Last Chance for Animals
• Karma Rescue
• Animals Rule
• Cage Free K-9 Rescue
• Boxer Rescue LA
• Downtown Dog Rescue
• Noah’s Bark
• Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue
• Boxer OC Animal Rescue
• Border Collies In Need
• Marley’s Pit Stop
• Rover Rescue
“We are inspired by the open hearts and devoted spirits of rescue organizations,” notes Smith. “As a company of dog-lovers, we’re committed to bringing health and happiness to dogs and dog owners everywhere, so we’re very excited to be able to make a donation of this size to help support the health of rescue dogs while they’re waiting to find their forever homes.”
