The dogs were part of a local rescue organization known as “Pendragwn Chow Chow Rescue,” operated by Terri Palmer-Roby. Conditions at the home had deteriorated into a classic hoarding situation, resulting in unsanitary and unhealthy living conditions for both the dogs and the people. Palmer-Roby signed ownership of all 90 dogs over to the Humane League of Lancaster County who is working quickly to give the dogs needed care and attention. Vice President of Operations Kerry Flanagan states, “We are hopeful that the majority of the dogs will be able to either be adopted or transferred to other animal shelters. The entire staff of the HLLC did an amazing job of pitching in and working under challenging circumstances.” Over the next several days the League will assess the health and temperament of each dog. Information about the dogs and their adoption status will be posted on the League’s website, www.humaneleague.com. Donations to care for the Chow Chow’s and the animals at the Humane League can be made online or by contacting the shelter at (717) 393-6551.

The vision of the Humane League of Lancaster County is a humane community where all pets are protected and wanted. As the leading animal welfare organization in Lancaster County , the Humane League has been helping people and pets in the Lancaster area since 1917 and is located at 2195 Lincoln Hwy. East . My sister close by had this comment:

Yes, this situation was sad. In fact, it made the Philadelphia news channels. Another situation where someone meant well but ended up in way over their heads. Not noted in this report is that the Berks Humane society has taken some of these dogs off the hands of the Humane League of Lancaster in order to absorb some of the burden for caring for these animals. It sounds like most of the dogs just need some cleaning up and a good medical evaluation before being available for adoption.
