Help Find Eleanor
May 06, 2009, 6:19PM MT
By Becky Monroe
For the Love of Eleanor
Since Thursday, April 16th, the community of Huntley has been helping Basset Buddies Rescue (BBR) keep tabs on Eleanor, a 2-year-old female, basset hound. The Huntley residents have been calling in Eleanor sightings. BBR has received over 30 sightings in the last 12 days.
Eleanor accidentally escaped from a local area veterinarian clinic two hours before she was to go to her foster home. BBR was notified immediately and the search began. Over 2000 fliers have been distributed, she is listed with Find Toto.com, posted on internet lost dog websites, in newspaper ads, on Facebook, on Craig’s list, tweeter, and just plain word of mouth has spread the word about Eleanor.
Eleanor is a 2 year old spayed Basset Hound, she is micro-chipped and was wearing a purple collar with ID tags.
A group of BREW (Beagle rescue) Midwest volunteers have been helping BBR to help facilitate her return. Professional lost dog rescuers from the Boston area have been consulted on a daily basis.
BBR needs the public's help. We need to keep Eleanor in her search zone and that can be done by the public being eyes and ears and not chasing, talking to Eleanor or even looking at Eleanor.
Because of Eleanor's past, she is very shy and scared. Any contact will only make her flee. If you do see Eleanor, just walk away and dial the phone number. Give the date, time and exact location of Eleanor. With the information and the guidance from professional lost dog rescuers, we hope to facilitate Eleanor’s return to her foster home now, hopefully, her adoptive home.
"People often don't understand the important role they can play by simply being eyes and ears. If they see Eleanor, they should completely ignore her rather than try to coax her and get her to come to them. Then they should go to the nearest phone and call to report her whereabouts. By doing this Eleanor won't feel pursued and will hopefully stay in the area she is calling home. Then the experts can work on getting her back to a real home. That phone call could be the call that gets Eleanor home. "
Anne Lindsay, Founder of Massachusetts Animal Coalition.
If someone is feeding her, please call the number listed in this article and let Basset Rescue know so they readjust their plans in facilitating Eleanor’s return.
The number to call: 847-217-8096.
If you are in the area and would like to physically help finding Eleanor, please contact Becky Monroe at sheltertails@comcast.net.
