Every year, the North Shore Animal League America travels across the nation on the “Tour for Life” - taking its life-saving mission and no-kill philosophy on the road to help find forever homes for hundreds of homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens and to raise public awareness concerning the needs of all shelter pets.

The 2009 Tour for Life will be stopping in 25 U.S. cities in 16 states to help save the lives of homeless companion animals. This month long initiative is billed as the world’s largest cooperative pet adoption event. During the Tour, North Shore partners with over 100 animal rescue groups, shelters and humane societies to promote the importance of adopting shelter dogs and cats as a life-saving measure.

The spokesperson for this year’s Tour is Kathryn Erbe, star of Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Ms. Erbe is also the spokesperson for the American Mutt-i-grees™ Club, which promotes shelter adoptions and discourages purchasing pets from retailers supplied by puppy mills.

Since its inception in 2001, the Tour for Life, has partnered with Purina and has placed thousands of homeless animals with loving families. This year the tour celebrates mixed breed dogs helping advance the mission of the American Mutt-i-grees Club.
