Every organization struggles with individuals trying to “just fit one more in”, but sometimes the best of intentions can result in a situation that puts both humans and animals in a crisis. Friends With Four Paws unexpectedly encountered this scenario on March 25, 2009. Here is the letter from their president, Tamra Spradlin.

FWFP has some sad and devastating things that have happened. One of our own, a person who was taking care of many of the FWFP pets, was keeping numerous dogs and cats inside her home in deplorable conditions. She was taking good care of the dogs in the rescue visible in our kennels which are outside, and she was taking good care of her dogs visible in her yard; however, she was allowing the pets on the inside of her house to live in feces. We are not yet sure where she obtained all of the animals found inside, and she may have been taking the animals in the name of the rescue from numerous sources. Many of these pets needed medical care, and FWFP has transported approximately 18 of those dogs to the veterinarian. Many were very thin and appeared hungry and thirsty. We observed some injuries of unknown cause. We also observed some animals that were deceased inside her house from unknown causes.

There were 5 small dogs that appeared to be puppies and 3 kittens in various states of decomposition. The dogs and cats that were subject to these conditions were not authorized to be accepted into the rescue. We are in the process of making sure all of the pets are safe. We are asking for help from all rescues and anyone willing to provide a temporary foster home and/or donations. Our primary concern is to ensure the health and safety of all of these animals, and all of our volunteers are focusing upon them at this time. We are asking for any help during this time of crisis, and you may contact Leah Rose at 405-714-2310 if you are able to help in any way. Thank you. We will post updates as they become available.

There are about 60 dogs, 3 adult cats, and 3 kittens less than 1 week old. There are various types of dogs:
• a momma boxer mix with 5-6 puppies who are all 4-5 weeks old
