Spreading the spay/neuter message by distributing $50 coupons

The City of Laramie has declared Tuesday, February 24, 2009 as Spay Day and is joining with the Laramie Animal Shelter Foundation, and other national organizations, to recognize the importance of spaying and neutering all companion animals.
The Foundation’s mission for 2009 is to help reduce the number of homeless animals, particularly cats who suffer the most in shelters because there are not enough adoptive homes. The Foundation is providing $50 coupons to the public to help defray the cost of spaying or neutering their companion animals and good news – all veterinarians in Laramie will accept the coupons.
To promote Spay Day Laramie, members of the Foundation spent Sunday, February 15 at the local Safeway distributing the coupons and educational materials to anyone who requested assistance to fix their family pets.
Fifty-dollar coupons are also available all year at the Laramie Animal Shelter, located at 1064 N. 5th Street in Laramie during regular shelter hours (Monday – Saturday – noon to 5:30 p.m.).
Members of the public can have as many coupons as they need to spay/neuter all family pets. The pets do not need to have been adopted from the shelter.
The goal of the Laramie Animal Shelter Foundation is to reduce the number of homeless animals in Laramie by promoting responsible pet ownership through spay/neuter. The non-profit provides sterilization and medical assistance to the animals at the Laramie Animal Shelter, as well as educational information to promote the humane and responsible care of companion animals.
