As of February 6, 2009, six Chicago horses are finding temporary refuge from what appears to be a neglectful life. JC Cutters, one of the main businesses in Chicago supplying horse-drawn carriage rides to tourists, was accused of animal cruelty and neglect. Six of the their horses were found in a make shift “barn.” They were under nourished and their environment did not meet regulations.
It is not the first citation of animal abuse/neglect for JC Cutters. In fact, they were denied a license to conduct carriage rides in 2009.
The horses are doing better now that they have a better place to stay. Even if it is only temporary, they are enjoying lots to eat and a pasture to roam in.
Chicago Animal Care and Control believes it has built a strong case against JC Cutter. The first of probably many court cases is scheduled for March 12, 2009.
